An endoscope is a device that consists of a long, thin, flexible tube with a light and a video camera attached to it. The internal organs of the patient’s body can be seen on a monitor with the use of an endoscope. It is a safe and advanced technique used to examine a patient’s digestive tract. During an endoscopy treatment, the tool endoscope is easily passed through the patient’s body without making a large incision to diagnose and treat diseases of the digestive tract.   • Colonoscopy: A colonoscopy is a common and safe procedure that examines the lining of the colon. The gastroenterologist will inspect the digestive tract for inflammation and assess its location and severity. Colonoscopy can identify and often treat polyps, colorectal bleeding, fissures, strictures, fistulas, foreign bodies, Crohn’s disease, and colorectal cancer. Patients are usually sedated before the colonoscopy and remain unconscious throughout the procedure.
  • Upper endoscopy: Upper endoscopy examines the lining of the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract, which includes the oesophagus, abdomen, and duodenum (the first portion of the small intestine). This procedure is also known as upper GI endoscopy or esophago gastro duodenoscopy (EGD). It is usually performed under anaesthesia to ensure maximum patient comfort or even under local anaesthetic throat spray in an awake patient.
  • Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography (ERCP): ERCP is a specialised endoscopic procedure used primarily as a therapeutic tool for evaluating diseases of the bile ducts, pancreas, and gallbladder. It primarily serves the purpose of extracting stones from the common bile duct and Pancreatic duct. It is also an essential procedure for placing plastic or metal stents in the biliary or Pancreatic ducts in case of strictures in diseases such as cholangiocarcinoma, chronic pancreatitis and Carcinoma Head of pancreas.
  • Sigmoidoscopy: It comprises the examination of the sigmoid colon and rectum with a flexible endoscopic tube such as a colonoscope. It can identify and sometimes treat polyps, rectal bleeding, fissures, strictures, fistulas, foreign bodies, colorectal cancer, and benign and malignant lesions.
  • Endoscopy ultrasound (EUS): A flexible endoscope with a small ultrasound device fitted into the end can be used to examine the lining and wall of the oesophagus, abdomen, small bowel, or colon. It is a minimally invasive technique for obtaining tissue samples from lymph nodes and gastrointestinal tumours that might not be easily accessible using conventional techniques.
